Abstract

The series of the half-Heusler compounds CoTi1-xMnxSb, starting with the Pauli paramagnetic semiconductor CoTiSb and ended by ferromagnetic metal CoMnSb, have been prepared. Polycrystalline samples were obtained by arc furnace melting and annealed at 700 C for one week. All samples crystallise with the MgAgAs regular structure. For composition with x > 0.6 superstructure lines, corresponding to a doubled cell parameter, appear. The concentration dependence of the lattice parameter does not follow Vegard's law. The ferromagnetic ground state appears in the system when 20% of Ti are replaced by Mn.
