Abstract

Preparation of transparent nanoceramics from nanocrystalline YAG (Y3Al5O12) powders both undoped and activated by RE-ions has been described. The results of structure and morphology investigations have been presented. The decomposition of the nanocrystalline YAG crystals into YAlO3 (YAP) was observed. The temperature and pressure of the transformation was much lower than that reported for bigger crystals. The transformation was connected with grain coarsening. The influence of the preparation method of YAG nanopowders on the transparency of obtained ceramics has been found.
