Abstract

Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) permits a very fast densification of ceramic composites, hereby minimising grain growth when the sintering conditions are precisely controlled. This research investigates the possibility to densify ZrO2-Al2O3-Ti(C,N) nanocomposite powder mixtures into fully dense materials using the SPS technique. Mechanical properties as well as electrical conductivity are evaluated as a function of sintering conditions and composite composition.
