Abstract

Combining high pressure and microwaves permits to decrease the reaction time one order of magnitude comparing to conventional hydrothermal reaction because of direct heating of the reacting fluids. On the other hand pressure permits to use high microwave power without sparking and boiling.

We carried out synthesis of nanopowders of zirconia doped with rare earth ions and ZnO doped with Al, Mn, Co, Ni, Ce. We studied also the effect of annealing on the nanopowders properties. The  nanopowders were characterized as follows: density specific surface,., grain size and grain size distribution, lattice constants and zeta potential, FTIR, luminescence and true chemical composition using ICP technique.

It was found that hydrothermal synthesis followed by annealing is a promising method for production of nanopowders doped with ions.
