Abstract

The Fe-Co-Ni-Ti alloy system belongs to the family ferromagnetic shape memory materials. Fe-Co-Ni-Ti alloys with different thermal hysteresis of martensite transformation have been studied by means of optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction at room and low temperatures. The characteristic temperatures of martensitic transformation were determined by the low-field magnetic susceptibility. The thermal hysteresis, Ms temperature, martensite tetragonality and transformation volume change have been measured for specimens with different time of aging. Correlations among these factors are discussed. The influence of thermocycling over a temperature range of γ↔α transformation on features of the latter in Fe-Co-Ni-Ti alloys was studied.

Keywords: Fe-Co-Ni-Ti alloy, ferromagnetic shape memory alloys, thermal hysteresis, thermocycling
