Abstract

The presence of silver in Er-containing dielectric matrices is known to enhance the photoluminescence properties of the rare earth element. In this experiment, Er:SiO2:Na2O sol-gel glass films were doped with silver by a field-assisted ion exchange procedure. EXAFS analysis of the obtained systems are used to detect the possible modification of erbium environment upon the Ag ion exchange. The results are then related to the optical response of the samples.
